"I don't know whether to bite you or kiss you..."

Looks like a found a new "crack pairing," where the universes of Batman and Watchmen collide: It wouldn't work out, of course, but I just love the chemistry between the two — at least, in my head. :XD:

They both have similar backgrounds: Walter Kovacs was the abused son of a prostitute and was raised at New York City's Lillian Charlton Home for Problem Children. After leaving Charlton, he found employment as an unskilled manual worker within the women's garment industry. In 1964, he learned of the brutal rape and murder a woman, who commissoned a dress, outside of her apartment building while her neighbours just watched, not calling the police. Angered, Kovacs took the persona of a masked vigilante, "Rorschach," wearing an ink-blot mask which he considers his true face, who leads a one-man battle against crime long after costume vigilantes became both detested and illegal. He is a disturbed, apathetic, vacant-faced, anti-communist, anti-liberal, right-wing paranoid absolutistic and objectivistic alexithymic who sees crimes as clearly defined as either right or wrong, good and evil, black and white; there is no grey area! It does not matter that you stole a loaf of bread to feed your family; you committed a crime and, as a criminal, should rightfully and violently punished!

Selina Kyle was the daughter of an abusive father and a brutalized mother and, after their deaths, was taken to Sprang Hall Orphange and Juvenile Detention Center for Delinquent Girls, but took her chances on the streets and ran away. Amid the crime and corruption of the poverty-stricken East End district of Gotham City, she become an underage dominatrix-prostitute with little success and survived through petty theft, later becoming the slickest cat burglar the Gotham City Police Department had ever dealt with under the guise of "Catwoman." However, Catwoman's status as heroine or villainess is ambiguous. Although a thief at heart, she steals from the wealthy and well-insured and giving it to the poor and unfortunate living in Gotham's East End as a kind of modern-day "Robin Hood", sometimes using her costumed persona to investigate and thwart the many most cruel and violent criminals on its streets. Brash and unpredictable, she has her own moral code and has occasionally teamed up with other masked heroes against greater threats, even saving the lives of Batman and the GPC on several occasions.

Catwoman represents a gray area in Rorschach's (and Batman's) otherwise black-and-white life, where the line between good and evil blurs, which I feel he needs to explore more (whether he likes it or not). She's kind of a female version of himself — another dark creature that prowls the night. I like the strange but delicious sexual tension that rises between an ultra-sexual, flippantly playful Catwoman and a virginal, all-too-serious Rorschach. These two....they just make sense! Can't you feel it?

It looks like, also, that I'm going to have to stick with pencil sketches and doodles until I get them looking right. I feel (and see) my art being rather awkward lately, so I need to practice more on the characters of Rorschach in Gotham before setting out to officially colour them.

(PS: Thank-yous and huggles to everyone for being so supportive of the idea of Rorschach in Gotham! I've been getting so many wonderful responses and I hope I don't disappoint.)

You just made my (insanely early) morning with this XD. Two of my favorite heroes together - okay, so it's Post-Crisis Catwoman, but just the same...don't tell Batman ^_^.

I love how Rorschach's being all tactile and affectionate. It makes me just wanna hug him.

You're right...PERFECTION!

Your art too looks to perfection, but as you say, you need to practice and practice is not a problem at all. :)

I feel...love and life; sun and shine.
But here in this Hades I cannot touch...
The forbidden angels of love cannot save me.

I see the demons of your hell.
I kiss the angels of your despair.

I love Catwoman, and I don't know who the other guy is but I like him too. Good job!

Actually, I'm not a huge fan of post-Crisis myself. I guess I'm considered "mid-Crisis"...if that makes sense...a go-between pre- and post-Crisis.

I like her biography in post-Crisis for her early years -- the abused child, the orphan, the runaway, the underage prostitute-turned-thief-turned-antihero... I really like that origin story. The classical pre-Crisis Catwoman didn't have much of one, technically. I mean, come on, airline stewardness who bumped her head and turned into cat-themed burglar? Kinda lame, isn't it?

However, there's a lot of things in post-Crisis I absolutely DESPISE because so much of it is uttlerly ABSURB! I abhor the entire Catwoman-Batman affair and "product of the affair" subplot of recent years! It's enough to pull my hair out! I've always hated the idea of them having a kid, particularly Huntress, back then and I still hate it today. I prefer Huntess a la Cry for Blood, as a daughter of a mafia boss, instead. I also dislike the entire thing of a Holly Robinson/Second Catwoman as well. I prefer Catwoman as being "forbidden fruit" to Batman -- someone to outwardly flirt with and occasionally kiss but never meant to go further than that... So, for Rorschach in Gotham, for the sake of the story and my own sanity, I have her as a blend of New Earth (because I loved the origin story) and DC Animated (because the 90s series was AWESOME) primarily, with a little bit of classic pre-Crisis (because that's the Catwoman I grew up with) and Batman Returns (because Pffifer is the definite live-action Catwoman) thrown in.

HAHAHA! I'm glad I could make your day. I can't really say that Rorschach is being "affectionate". I see it has a moment where Catwoman moving in on his terroritial bubble and Rorschach just hasn't realised it yet because he's preoccupied in thought. It's up to us to figure out his reaction when he figures out. Hmmmm...

Thank you...but I'm my own worse critic! I don't think I got them right at all. In my head, it's great idea...then I put it to pencil and it's all weird looking.

It's because I've been putting off drawing humans for a long while. I'm soooooo rusty and I feel I must force myself to improve. I must challenge it and fight against it and practice, practice, practice.

Well, try not to completely force yourself, otherwise, it isn't art, but forced art. And that makes things worse!

Ah, the other guy...hahahaha! He's from a DC graphic novel called Watchmen, which was considered by Time magazine was one of the 100 best and most influential novels of the 20th century, alongside 1984, Cather on the Rye, and Native Son. For a "comic" to be next to such giants of literature is amazing! And the film of the novel will be coming out in March this year, which I'm very, VERY EXCITED about! Check out the trailer: [link]

His name is "Rorschach". He looks like the Question, with his brown trench-coat, fedora, pinstriped trousers, and faceless mask resembling the Rorschach inkblot tests. He's a very intruging, psychological distrubed character, arguably the most "damaged" of all the cast in Watchmen. By day, Walter Joseph Kovacs, the abused son of a prostitute, is a disturbed, apathetic, vacant-faced, anti-communist, anti-liberal, right-wing paranoid absolutistic and objectivistic alexithymic who is always seen carrying a sign about him that reads "The End is Nigh" and, by night, he becomes the ruthless, uncompromising self-declared criminal investigator who leads a one-man battle against crime long after costume vigilantes became both detested and illegal in the story. He sees crimes as clearly defined as either right or wrong, good and evil, black and white; there is no grey area! It does not matter that you stole a loaf of bread to feed your family; you committed a crime and, as a criminal, should rightfully and violently punished!

If you haven't read the book, I highly recommend it! You won't be diappointed.

Oh, I'll have to remember that. (big bear huggles) Thank you, dahling...I really needed that! It's something I really need to remember!

Yup! It's an important thing to ask yourself, 'Am I having fun? How important is this drawing?' It's always kinda hard to try and discipline and teach art to yourself. XD

I always like to draw in a fun and enjoyable way, an outlet on paper of ideas and emotions and scenes that accumulate my head. However, lately, I've been feeling rather frustrated with my style. I can't seem to escape it. I feel it may be dragging me down, as it's limiting me as an artist, so I'm testing out some new waters, trying something new, and seeing if I can adapt. Here's hoping....
