"What's one more freak on the streets of Gotham...?
It's a snoooooww day! Well, technically, it iced here in Texas. Nevertheless, because Texans don't know how to drive on ice, my classes have been canceled for the second time in a row this week, so I thought I'd stay home, toasty warm with hot cocoa in hand and a pen in another, and practice my proportions for Rorschach in Gotham. I'm not exactly sure if I'm getting better...or if I'm getting worse.
These are two separate drawings on separate pieces of paper, because I ran out of room in my sketch-book (and I must get a new one before this fills up completely), and pasted them together and touched up in Photoshop. That's really all I can say about this.
You're getting better at making him dynamic *and* stiff; which is key to doing Rorschach. I really like the look on Catwoman's face; here gesture came out great, and so did her tush.
I think you seem to be getting better, which is a really impressive considering how good your previous versions of them are.
Her rear end needs some work I think...but other than that, you're doing great!

I see the demons of your hell. I kiss the angels of your despair.
Oh, I always thought WAS making Rorschach stiff (on purpose, that is). I suppose this is stiffer than usual, uh? I would like to make him more dynamic though. I'll definitely practice that more.
As for Catwoman, I was actually really worried about her tush seeming too big, but you have now died down those worries.
So thank you! I'm very, VERY HAPPY you say that! I really appreciate it!

Yeah, I thought her rear looked odd, too, which is unfortunate I couldn't fix it since I used a pen. (I had forgot to put my pencil bag in my purse and had to borrow a writing utensil and they gave me a pen.) Oh well.

David Gibbs drew Rorschach as very stiff and reserved; a ball of compressed rage held in check by a cold intellect. The only time Rorschach was show as dynamic was when he was performing violent acts.
I'm afraid that my vocabulary isn't really up to the task of expressing my thoughts. Rorschach is always stiff, cold, centered, and reserved in his movement until he's cracking open someone's head.
Please don't get offened or disgusted by what I'm about to say; I don't know of another way to say it...
Catwoman's butt is very big; but I like big butts, along with tops to match. I still see Marylin Monroe as the epitome of the perfect body; generous curves, wide hips, and decent helpings of breasts and buttocks; most people look at modern supermodels who resemble Twiggy to various degrees. My personal preference, although not hyper-exaggerated (which I do find disgusting), tend to far more generous "curves."
Having her but that big and shapely, with her bent that way to call attention to it, is a blatant sexual signal: it says she is a very sexual character who uses her body to get her whatever advantages she can get. That fits her character perfectly, so it works for me.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
